A couple Patient Anglers go down to Warm Springs for some fall redband fishing!
The Lower Deschutes River near Warm Springs has been producing excellent fishing opportunities this fall. The combination of cooler water temperatures and active fish behavior has created ideal conditions for anglers.
Redband trout have been particularly active, responding well to a variety of patterns. Nymphs in sizes 14-18 have been most productive, with patterns like the Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, and various stonefly nymphs producing consistent results.
Dry fly action has been good during the warmer parts of the day. Small mayfly patterns and caddis imitations in sizes 16-20 have been effective, especially during the afternoon hours when insect activity increases.
Streamer fishing has also been productive for anglers targeting larger fish. Medium-sized streamer patterns fished with slow, deliberate retrieves have been particularly effective in the deeper pools and runs.
Water conditions have been excellent, with good clarity and stable flows. The fall weather has been pleasant, making for comfortable fishing conditions throughout the day.
As we move further into fall, expect the fishing to remain strong. The cooler water temperatures will keep fish active, and the reduced angling pressure compared to summer months creates excellent opportunities for quality fishing experiences.
